Claim that it was founded by the Genoese[edit]

I see the claim that it was founded by the Genoese in several sources, but it appears to be a spurious claim indeed: the Genoese gained access to the Black Sea after the Fourth Crusade (1204) and they intensified their trade after the Treaty of Nymphaeum (1261), long after the town was first mentioned in 1148. bogdan (talk) 19:06, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
